When he was growing up, the other children called him 'Stump' because he was as wide as the stump from a grandfather tree and about as smart.
Mikael can sing like a bird. He can sing so well that he can call the birds to him. He is able to befriend almost any animal. He is also a somewhat good carver. He once carved the likeness of a young lady that had caught a friend's fancy and gave the medallion to him as a gift.
Mikael is good-hearted but a little slow on the uptake. He thinks of his friend Thaylon as an older brother that tries to look out for him, even when they disagree with what he wants to do.
Mikael is good with a long bow and a spear, since every time he tried to use a sword, he threw it across the room.
Mikael breaks things a lot, not because he is clumsy, but because he doesn't know his own strength. As a result, he tries very hard not to get into fights with other people. The last time he did, he threw a comrade across the room and was so scared that he had killed him. He decided to leave.
Mikael traveled with Thaylon to the shore of the Verquat. They were captured by pirates and sold into slavery aboard Captain Mortimus Glump's ship, the Spearman.
They escaped and made their way to their friend Gyl's hideout. The pirates went after the three elves but did not catch them.
