In the Beginning...
Out of the comic millennial void came the two forces of the universe;
Sentience (awareness, emotion, and the alignments- chaos / law / good / evil) and
Elements (fire, water, earth, air).
Out of the union of these two great forces the first conceived reaction was named Magic. This Magic had both of its 'parents' attributes; elements and sentience. Combined with these was the desire to create, much as itself had been created.
So then Magic created the universe, and then every parallel universe to follow. Even with this, Magic's hunger to create was not sated. It had given each of the universes Elements, but Magic soon discovered that Sentience was much harder to give. As Magic gave away this Sentience, its own life force waned.
Even so, Magic gave away the Sentience. Magic somehow knew that if it was to fully create it must give more of itself.
In so doing, the Immortals were given Sentience and control over the Elements, for Magic had somehow reduced itself to only a force, not quite an Element-not quite Sentience.
Because of this, Magic had unwittingly put limitations on itself. For the first time, Magic was not anything and everything. It was everywhere, but could only be activated by special means.
Because of the void Magic had created for itself, part of its creation, the Immortals, did not know from where they came from. They imagined in their mind that they were created from greater things than themselves, which they were, and not from the elements that they sought to control.
In that exact instance, the Gods were created.
These Gods were created in the Outer Planes, in the same 'minds' as those of their worshipers; Good / Evil / Neutral. These Gods, who took shape, discovered that they could not live amongst the Immortals. They had a drive, a motive that they were not aware of nor could understand. It was their unknowing desire to reunite magic with the plane on which it was given.
To do this, the Gods needed power. This power came from their worshipers, those who believed in them, for the more that believed-the more their strength.
So the Gods set out to convert the others. During this they created the flora and fauna. The vain Gods liked what they did and became jealous of what the other Gods did. There were battles between the warring Gods and eventually, these Gods grew old. Other Gods were born of the Older Gods, and even these grew old and were replaced by newer Gods, all with this hidden hunger for power that only their worshipers could give.
