Planting 18, CY 595
Mordecai Musgrave could feel his face turning red. "You are the only one alive?" he asked the lone survivor of Anhelm the Hunter's company.
"I am and I have a message from Tam and Talasek. They said you should quit while you are ahead." The man seemed uneasy as he spoke to the patriarch of the House of Musgrave. He knew he could be killed just for delivering bad news.
"Is that so?" said Mordecai. Walking to a table anmd grabbing three golden orbs from a pouch, he tossed them to the man and said, "I have a message for those who I have been told have recently come back to Greyhawk. Find the murderer. Give him these coins and tell him I have not forgotten about him."
Mordecai turned his back to the man and said, "Leave now and never come back, and if I find out you have not given the message I will find you and I will kill you."
The man bowed and left.
"These ruffians and villains think they can trifle with the House of Musgrave? I suppose it is time to see what our new benefactors can do for us. After all, if we are to help them with their goals I don't see why they can not help us with ours. We have enough gold, I WANT REVENGE!"
He noticed a man in full plate armor, covered head to toe in gleaming metal seeming appearing from out of nowhere. "How does someone in armor move so silently?" he thought.
"How long have you been watching, Lord Blade?" Mordecai was unsure what to call this armored individual. Full armor was normally worn only when anticipating a full scale melee.
The man in the armor replied, "Long enough to see you let your emotions make you more chaotic than you need to be. Would you like my help in this matter, even though it is beneath me? And do call me Sword General Dakon. I have not been a Blade in many years and I deserve to be shown some respect. I have earned it."
Mordecai was not used to being treated this way. He fought off the urge to raise his voice and said, "Yes, your help would be greatly appreciated. What would it cost me?"
"I would say a favor at the time and place of my choosing but alas, that seems insincere now that Balo has made an appearance. I wish we were made more aware of his plans, he always seems to be at something other than the rest. Yes, I have a cost in mind. I wish to meet The Oracle and I know he will want to be ready for my arrival. Make the necessary preparations will you? I wish this to happen before the end of Planting."
Mordecai was dumbfounded. He could not hope to realize nor comprehend the scope of the Sword General's plans. "Why would you want to do that? Gerg is an excellent healer and occasional oracle but he's nothing special."
"You let me worry about that," said Dakon.
As Mordecai sat down at his table and motioned for his servant to pour him a drink, Dakon said, "And please tell Arkandy Benris I wish him to accompany me. We have much to discuss and I wish to use the travel time to do so, away from prying city ears and eyes."

Sword General Gerz, Please prepare for Sword General Dakon and High Priest Benris who will be coming to Castle X in two days. Please clear all appointments or duties so you may give these men your undivided attention for matters of extreme importance. You should also prepare for the possibility of travel. Perhaps many days and perhaps into a dangerous situation. You will need all of the oracle's capabilities no matter what lies ahead. There is no need to announce to the general population of our visit or our business. Use your discretion and wisdom to decide who needs to know so they may administer to the keep while you are gone. Lastly please have all necessary components so if needed your considerable divine powers may be utilized to their full potential. 'seal of Renalse' 'seal of the Sword Emperor'

After Gerg left Castle X, Sword General Dakon and High Priest Benris stayed on and were given the grand tour by Chamberlain Magill. When they asked to see what was in the wooden building behind the keep they were politley told it was off limits to all save The Oracle. Arkandy was content with that answer. Sword General Dakon was not.

Mordecai Musgrave swore under his breath. He would not show how upset he was as he saw his finest horses being led away by Sword General Dakon's entourage. He was snapped to attention by his personal attendant's question. "Should I draw a bath for you m'lord?" Mordecai could not answer before two visitors were announced. "Bethac and Lady Trumpus, m'lord". The Trumpus family was another wealthy family. Their dealings with illegal goods, smuggling, and other nefarious schemes did not equal the Musgraves' but they certainly were on the same path. "What do you two want?" said Mordecai. Bethac's voice was a deep chasm, so deep in fact sometimes he was hard to understand. "I understand you just had a Sword General here. Do tell old chum, what was that all about?" Mordecai smiled and offered them to sit. After getting comfortable he said, "Coilo has been found. He might know more than we think. Any word from the Falcon?" "No. Apparently she was not prepared for those tools who have been snooping around. If she kills Coilo it would look bad for Balo. If Coilo reveals our involvement in the dissolution of the thieves guild it could ruin our entire endeavor. What should we do?" Mordecai did not take long to answer. "Scribe! Take a message." Mordecai thoughtfully and carefull said his thoughts. "Commander Luxxor. Be on the lookout for travelers who may be passing into or near Baron Stonegar's lands. They have names of Aluna, Moji, Farin, Bolan, and Leroy. Take whatever steps necessary to stop or delay them from whatever their journey may be. Extreme prejudice is advised." The patron of the House of Musgrave took a sip of wine. "Signed, Uncle Mordecai."

"The Falcon is dead." The words hung in the air as the spy told what he had learned over the past three days. "Not only that, it was that priest of St. Cuthbert who killed her. How I do not know."
Mordecai let that sink in. He wondered if he should be happy or worried. On the one hand he figured it would be good if that loose end was tied up and his connection was not revealed. On the other hand, why would Balo use citizens of a foreign kingdom to do his dirty work? Couldn't he just deal with The Falcon himself?
The spy waited patiently for his payment. Mordecai threw him a small bag. The spy did not question or count the money. He left without being dismissed. That was the deal. He came and went as he pleased so long as his information proved useful and most of all accurate. Mordecai decided to take a walk around his city home.
"I have not been to my eastern estate for almost three months, " he thought. "I should go and see what else can be divined."
A short time later the patriarch of the house of Musgrave sat in his fur lined chair in the great room of his fortified manor house three miles east of the city of Greyhawk. It was so beautiful here he thought. He took a short nap and when he awoke he wondered how long he had been asleep. He stumbled briefly before making his way to the chapel in the northern wing.
"Good afternoon m'lord," said a man wearing the clerical vestments of a holy man. Symbols and runes of power along with a lordly bearing made this priest an imposing figure. Mordecai recognized the priest's importance to his plans but occasionally reminded the man who was his benefactor.
"Good afternoon your grace," said Mordecai. "I would normally ask you to break bread with me this night but something more important has come up. Do you have the necessary components to cast your spells of divination and foresight?"
The man smiled meekly and said, "I always have those and I always know when they will be needed. I never know what you are going to ask. 'Tis what makes me staying here, along with the steady supply of runaways and orphans, so interesting and enjoyable."
Mordecai did not let on how disgusted he was by this man's predilections. He could not let himself fall victim to sentiment, not when he was so close to realizing his ultimate goal.
"I need to know if the stone you told me about can protect this place from my enemies and from the one you told me about. You remember, the non-born?" Mordecai kept his poise.
"It can. It must be ground into a fine powder and spread wherever you wish to remain hidden or unaffected. With the decline of magic in these lands it's potency will grow and will never stop. It is a mineral that is never going to stop being what it is. Just as gold will always be gold, the stone will always be the stone." The priest took two steps towards the cold empty fireplace. "As far as the non-born is concerned, leave him to me."

Patchwall 1, CY595
Mordecai Mausgrave was glad Brewfest was finished. He hated the celebrations, the drunken revelry, and this year he hated it more. Leroy of Jenkins, priest of St. Cuthbert was recognized as the "Falcon Slayer" and was given a tremendous amount of pomp and circumstance for his Ordainment to a Billet of St. Cuthbert, not choosing to be of the Chapeaux or the Star orders.
The Billets are the most numerous of Saint Cuthbert's clergy. Most seek to minister to and protect the faithful. These are well-beloved by the common folk. Their symbol is a wooden club. The Chapeaux often come into conflict with the Billets, because the former order wants to seek new converts while the latter wants to care for the worshipers they already have. "At least his public dejection at his so called 'friends' absence was pleasant to see. Curse him and his faith." He then thought about what had happened at the Free City Arena and to his associate Cinoisp.
Mordecai sent word to his followers back in Greyhawk. They should be ready to start searching out all known thieves and their associates for their plundering of his possessions. The time for niceties was over, it was time for revenge. "Ah, sweet sweet revenge. How I've missed you."
He then turned to his servant and said, "Find my scribe, I have a letter to send to my dear sister. It's time she give me my money's worth."

As Mordecai and his companion walked back towards their rented house in Gomenit he turned to her and said ,"I wonder, do you think my dear niece and her friends kept the tiny blades Geoffry created for us?"
With a small sigh she replied,"I don't understand why we did not just finish them. It seems a lot of trouble to go through just to see if you can outsmart her."
"But my dear," said Mordecai, "The Lord and Lady Stilton are much more into this sort of thing than before. I even heard them begging for a way out, which was appropriate given your gleeful expression when you 'finished' them, as you say. I would like to think I honor them with trying to give my niece a way out. She certainly seemed uncomfortable here didn't she?"
The femme fatale just smiled and grabbed onto Mordecai's arm a little tighter. "What's for lunch? I'm absolutely famished, my handsome man." A little further up the road they went into the Flying Squid. A slightly dirty, full bearded robust man was there, waiting for them. The two joined him at the bar and Mordecai asked, "Would you like a drink Rhuvein?"
"I do not want anything from you, you stupid fuck." With an sneer Rhuvein Stormdruid calmly turned and stared at Mordecai. "Lord Stilton, you sir, are a piss ant and an annoying thing. If you had not warned me of the danger those animals would be in I would most certainly remove you from Mikhal. But since you did, I feel you are either hoping I will owe you or I will help you." He then stared at the lady.
"I will do neither. I talked to the animals, they made their choice. A shame really, what a waste."
Mordecai said, "So what will you do then?" His tone sounded worried. His companion slowly let her hand fall to he thigh and her dagger hidden under her dress.
"Nothing," said Rhuvein. "They made their choice. And now I make mine." With that he got up and headed for the door.
Before he made it to the door Mordecai said, "A pleasure doing business with you."
"Do not let me or my circle catch you doing anything, not even the tiniest harm, to any creature that can not defend themselves. The raccoons should not have attacked Darro and your involvement with Count Waverly is not fully understood. But unless you can destroy the forest, the animals, and the tiny creatures who are my eyes and ears in town, you better hope I never figure it out. Hayrop Hant shall know of this when he awakens. Take that as a threat and a warning."
After Rhuvein had left a few moements pass before Mordecai orders a drink and smiles. "I should have known the only challenge worth my time would be my own flesh and blood. Now, where the hell is my pet?"
