To his Grace, the Elven King
Your majesty, I bid you flarfisess'n and I hope this brief note finds you and all in court in fine health. I've sent this courier and correspondence in order to provide your Grace a deep apology more properly explain my brief delay to your attendance, upon receiving your summons to court.
As I tidy up several loose ends here in Lankmar, which have caused only the slightest delay, I hope to provide a more detailed accounting of the last six seasons spent acclimating our Graystone cousins to their new homes.
All though settled, things here are far from being what I would call peaceful, nor are they as harmonious as I would prefer to report. Slowly the minutiae of the tree of life is taking root, and with the benevolence of divine providence the tree will flower in the wet days of Effeldrum.
Tensions, like the tides, ebb and flow here. I only hope the dam of peace will prevent a catastrophic flood wiping clean all we've struggled thus for to produce. Our two Elven races seem, as they always have been, at odds with each other with taciturn resentment rising from the failing to show empathy. Our more brusque fellow citizens provide an odd buffer 'tween the two aesthetic camps, with the result being many lost opportunities.
I will in all haste depart as soon as I am able to do so, and I beg your forgiveness.
I remain your humble servant...
Eioin Boughsinger Aide-de-camp Lankmar

A short time after the battle with the dirt and rock creatures is concluded and damage is assessed, Eioin is approached by an elf dressed in the ceremonial vestments of the Schalendogos Reddruude. "I am Schalendagos Kallmak Hornsdog. Humunous Bouhgsinger, you are invited to attend mass at the Holy Temple of Correllon when the Pommade visits on the morrow. It is no coincidence you were here to help defend our capital tree from whatever evil brought forth those abominations."
Kallmak turns to reveal a woman, also in ceremonial vestments of the Muluiundai. "May I introduce Muluiundai Phillipa Tangelsburry. She was supposed to take over for you in Lankhmar but her travels have kept her away for longer than anticipated."
Phillipa was not unattactive for a woman in her late fourties if she was a human. Fair of face and hair, she had the grace of the elves along with the passion of a human. Being of mixed race she appeared much younger than her actual age. "Humunous Boughsinger. I have heard many great things about you and your work in the southern kingdoms. It is an honor and a pleasure to meet a fellow Mauduit Traveler who is not of pure blood. We must talk at dinner tonight if you would but accept my invitation. I hope you will be refreshed from the recent trouble before tonight?"

Smiling as they approach, Eioin listens reverently. At the conclusion of the introductions, Eioin says, "Schalendagos Kallmak." Eioin inclines an a reverent bow, "You honor me sir with your visit and I gladly accept your invitation to attend our faithful offices the Holy Temple."
He turns to the lady, "Muluiundai Phillipa." He bows the same to her saying, "Any 'great' things you may have heard about me, are only due to favor bestowed by our Lord, Corellon Larethian. As he instructs, so shall I perform." Placing his right fist over his heart, he quotes a learned passage as if he's reciting a venerated poem without ever breaking eye contact, staring into Phillipa's eyes; "Blessed are those who bring aid in times of trouble. Damn-ed be those who flee from their foes. Beauty is art found in crafts and in song. Curse-ed be defilers and those who bring woes."
After completing is brief recital, he smiles at her and says, "Madam. I would enjoy nothing more than to dine, though poor company I'm sure only to be." He inclines his head at Phillipa in respect.
Returning to Kallmak, Eioin says, "M'Lord. Evil? Abominations? Oh yes. Evil abominations of terrible magic... terrible and powerful. I am simply fortunate our Lord provided me the guidance to be here where I was available to give aid to his Grace, the King and all of our kindred..." He looks back at Phillipa, "...no matter what station, nor of parentage. One may not select their parents, only should only be judged by those with whom they decide for themselves to be surrounded."
He returns to look at Kallmak, "When I saw from where they came, I lept into one of their portals to see if there was ought I could discover as to their source. Once inside, I was in a dark passageway leading only in two directions. One led to a 'tear' leading out to where the battle was raging. The other led down a corridor to where a devil creature stood, waiting. I knew immediately it was something of which power, I could not endure."
Suddenly remembering Eioin continued, "I recall reading in the Sacred Grove a text which spoke of such breakings spilling forth creatures from other worlds. If my memory hasn't failed for one reason or other, coming out of his remembering he smiled at Phillipa saying, "As this fragile vessel," Eioin indicates his body, "is ill suited to be much more than a candle to the light-of-day which is our Lord, a text entitled, 'On the Musings of Trion Worlds'. It was in these series of scroll-works that the story described these same 'doorways' but called these breakings, 'rifts'."
Again returning from his remembrance, "I was just a lad when I spent time in the Grove, but for one reason or another, this tale of the breakings... rifts, if you will, always fascinated me. It was set in a land called Telara, which was much like our world. From deserts to snowy mountain peaks."
Eioin put his hand to his chin and inclined his head concentrating hard to remember, "As I recall, the story went that Telara was a land which balanced and stored magical power, due to the fact it was the focal point of the elemental planes." Looking back at the other two to make sure they were following him, "You know... Air, Fire, Water, Earth, Life, and Death, and was the one single point where every one of these Planes intersect with each other.
Returning to his concentration, Eioin went on, "The story, which is why it probably fascinated and has stuck with me over so many years, went on to explain each Plane was governed by a dragon-deity, a personification of that elemental force.
"However, through the actions of what was called the Dragon of Extinction, in the common tongue known as 'Death Dragon' or in our language, 'Regulos', the various dragons had united in an alliance known as the 'Blood Storm'." Eioin again chuckled to himself, "The command this Regulos must have had to bring together to his will such powerful beings. The story said that Regulos purpose was to invade this land of Telara, in order to gain use of the intersection of all of their realms, providing access to draw magical power from each.
"In the 'Last Battle' of the story, the Blood Storm was ultimately defeated by the inhabitants of Telara, with the help of a deity called called, Vigil, who was the most powerful of the native gods on Telara.
"With his defeat, Vigil and the warriors, cast Regulos into the void around the elemental Planes. The five dragon compatriots were trapped within planes behind various wards which were supported by power conduits placed throughout the land of Telara. These wards and their power supplies were designed to close Telara off from external threats. As in all of these stories, it is prophesied due to the corruption of the inhabitants of Telara, the forgetfulness over time and the influence of secret societies and dragon cults, Regulos would return and gain entry to Telara, destroying the wards and causing these rifts to begin to open, feeding the strength of the trapped dragons and allowing their minds to enter, in a bid to destroy all of Telara's defenders.
"The story concluded by saying, at that point only the truly faithful would be called, which included heroes from throughout the long history of Telara's past, to take on this final, decisive struggle. For those pledging their lives, wealth, homes and souls in this epic struggle, Vigil would honor them and they would be called, 'The Ascended'."
Eioin paused for a moment in his retelling of the story, "Yes. Even heroes long dead could become resurrected warriors tasked to defeat the forces of Regulos and cleanse Telara of the threat of the Storm forever."
Eioin looked at the two standing there, he chuckles, "I remember when I read that story, I thought it was one of those tales written to teach lessons about loyalty and faith. You know, like 'The Snail Battalion' or 'The Hempers Rope'.
"I only hope some evil necromancer hasn't read this same tale and instead of using it as moral tale, decided to employ it as a guide to use dark magic, like that of the Drow, to make this tale of Telara, occur on Skell."
Eioin smiled and said, "Enough of my terrible storytelling. We need drink and song and stories about those who fought today but have left us to go forward into the shimmering disk and are able now to look upon our Lord's face in all of it's glory. The lucky bastards!" Smiling, Eioin indicated the way back towards the main hall. "We need to lick wounds, dry tears, comfort the children and show these accursed creatures we will not give in, just as those of Telara never failed." He began making small talk as they proceeded about how they fared in their travels.

"I shall send one of my assistants to retrieve you for dinner." With that Philipa moved on from Eioin.
After watching her leave Kallmak turned to Eioin. "I must tell you there has been some talk about you being spoonsored for Muluindai. There has also been talk of the king asking for you to remain near Lankhmar and as you being mauduit I can understand how frustrating that might be for you. Nothing concerning Correllon goes unnoticed by his holiness. This all might be a test or it might be a king and a pommade having a pissing contest. We of the clergy have strong feelings about Solath. Tell me, humunous, how would you react to being tasked with a region instead of following your calling?"

Watching Philipa walk away, Eioin follows her expressive backside as she disappears around the corner.
He smiles at Kallmak words. "Schalendagos Kallmak. You flatter me, Sir. To have my name mentioned in such hallowed company is a reward for which I am unworthy. I serve our Lord and my King in equal, weighed and deliberated measures. Without our King, we have no land... no people... no way of life..." He looks out at the forest far below. "Without our Lord, we have no spirit... no love... no taste of life."
He looks back at Kallmak and with his strong charisma in full vigor, "As with the spices of the peppercorn and the ground preservative from the salt mines, each in equal measure to that of the dish is what is most pleasing. With the Pommade as chef, we eat very well."
Seeing Kallmak was looking for a more direct answer to his direct question, Eioin provides him with an answer, "I can be tasked with both a 'region' as well as continuing to follow the direction of the Pommade in service to Corellon Larethian. Our lord knows no region. As He is the creator, I shall continue to be His arm as a preserver. His touch is the wind and His voice is heard as the wind passes through the leaves. That voice will be heard no matter in what region. All may be done whilest performing whichever task his Grace commands me to undertake, with the blessings of the Pommade."
Eioin smiles and barks a laugh at Kallmak, "Let the bosses piss at each other. The rain will wash it all away eventually anyway."
As Eioin chuckles at his joke, his face takes on a more serious expression. "Besides, with these rifts spilling forth their bowels of monster elements, the machinations of great rulers may be the least of our worries."
Eioin leads Kallmak towards the main section of the Tree fortress. "Come. I want to watch Philipa walk away from me some more."
